Labour fringe meeting: Council housing key to resolving the housing crisis

If you are at the Labour conference in Liverpool, we have a fringe meeting at 1 o’clock on Monday September 23rd at the Quaker Meeting House, 22 School Lane, Liverpool L1 3BT. Small Room, 1st Floor.

It will be chaired by Ben Clay, Chair of the Labour Campaign for Council Housing.

Speakers are

Bell Ribeiro-Addy, MP for Clapham and Brixton Hill.

Mairi MacRea, Shelter. Shelter continues to focus on campaigning for 90,000 social rent homes a year and freezing Right to Buy.

Diarmaid Ward, Dept Leader Islington Council. His council is one of the 20 signatories to the interim report, “Securing the Future of Council Housing” which has warned that council housing revenue accounts are unsustainable without a big increase in funding for existing homes and new build/acquisitions.

Fraser McGuire, UNITE Hospitality youth officer. Fraser was on the Young Labour National Committee.

Speaker from Defend Council Housing which played a prominent role in campaigning against stock transfer of council housing. It calls for cancellation of council housing ‘debt’ and increased funding for for Housing Revenue Accounts to address the funding crisis.

The FBU (an affiliate of our campaign) has been invited. Speaker to be confirmed.
