The Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union has affiliated to the Labour Campaign for Council Housing. General Secretary Sarah Woolley told us:
“The union the executive discussed the importance of council housing, the maintenance of them, and the impact that selling off council housing has had on the ability of our members to benefit from them. The problem we see now is our members, largely on low pay, are struggling to afford private rent and being subjected to at times criminal negligence from rogue landlords, who are more interested in making money than ensuring tenants are safe. We therefore felt that we had a duty to support the campaign for council housing on behalf of our members.”
